Republic Cast "National Convention" Medal L'An I (1792) MS63 PCGS, Maz-318, VG-338. 38mm. By Andre Galle. A rare "test" Medal produced for the National Convention by the artists assembled at Lyon. Cast from bell metal, and clearly inspired by the iconic 1783 Libertas Americana design of the nascent United States (and likewise struck in France). Very impressive on the whole for its preservation and overall appeal considering its composition, with nearly matte stippling achieved in the fields.
