Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) Penny ND (1059-1062) MS66★ NGC, Winchester mint, Leofstan as moneyer, Hammer Cross type, S-1182, N-828. 1.35gm. +EΛDǷΛR | RD RE, crowned, bearded, and mantled bust of Edward right, scepter held before / +LIOFSTΛN ON ǷINI[...], voided short cross with each limb terminating in an incurved segment of a circle. An incredibly high-grade piece of instantly admirable quality, fielding a pervasive aged luster that wells at mildly upturned rims. A full iridescent cabinet tone is on display over both sides, canvassed against ample die polish on the obverse. For comparison, we note that we sold an MS66-graded example of the same type for $4080 in January 2021.
