British India. George VI Proof Restrike Mule Rupee 1936-Dated PR63 NGC, cf. KM524 (there with George V obverse), S&W-9.4. Reeded edge. Mule restrike pairing the obverse bust type of George VI with an earlier reverse die dated 1936, resulting in a type that never entered circulation. Exceedingly lustrous and well-preserved, with only trivial instances of handling noted, limited to light wisps of friction. The first example of this muled issue that we have offered to date, and conditionally scarce, with no examples certified finer by NGC.
