Parma & Piacenza. Pier Maria II de' Rossi & Bianca Pellegrini bronze Medal ND (1455-1471) AU55 Brown NGC, Hill I, 296 p. 73, pl. 47. 30mm. Approx. 14.6gm. By Gianfrancesco Enzola. A scarce Renaissance Medal bearing the portraits Pier Maria II de Rossi ("the Magnificent") and his noblewoman mistress Bianca Pellegrini. Very rare, and the sole example that we could locate. According to an online encyclopedic entry citing Marco Pellegri's Un feudatario sotto l'insegna del leone rampante. Pier Maria Rossi (1413-1482) (1996), Rossi granted a commission to Parmese goldsmith Francesco da Enzola to produce Medals bearing his own portrait and that of Pellegrini. It is noted that few examples survive. Considering the state of most renaissance Medals, and given the high-end preservation of this offering, a fleeting and possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
