Republic bronze Specimen Pattern 8 Reales 1829 Pi-JS SP62 Brown PCGS, London mint, KM-Pn21 (mistakenly listed with different assayer's initials), Guttag-3081A, Buttrey/Hubbard-21a. 25.24gm. An exceptionally attractive Pattern, particularly for its seemingly somewhat conservative numerical grade. Buttrey records that while there is no documentary evidence available concerning its origin, the matrices and punches are currently housed in the British Museum, suggesting manufacture in London for the mint in San Luis Potosi. For the sake of comparison, we note that the finer of the two Gerber specimens later certified only two points finer than the present coin by NGC.
