Republic silvered-bronze Pattern 8 Reales 1840 Do-OMC MS62 NGC, Durango mint, KM-Pn59, cf. Buttrey/Hubbard-34 (listed in silver). A rare Pattern striking, believed to have been produced for the Durango mint by Oeschger Mesdach & Company in France, and struck in silvered bronze, lending a unique appearance to the piece that is easily discernible from those of circulation-issue 8 Reales. Lavender-gold toning over dark, slate surfaces populate this curious Pattern. One of only a small handful certified by both NGC and PCGS, with the last we sold--an AU55--bringing $13,800 in our September 2011 Long Beach sale.
