Republic copper Specimen Pattern 20 Pesos 1870 Mo-C XF Details (Plugged) Brown PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM-Pn123, Guttag-Unl., Buttrey/Hubbard-Unl. Of comparatively fine quality for this very rare off-metal Pattern typically found poorly preserved when it is locatable at all. Notably missing from the Norweb Collection, we are aware of two other examples, one in the Gerber Collection (Spink June 1996, Lot 465), and another, badly damaged VF piece, which brought over $2500 in November 2012. The noted plugging occurs around 12 o'clock above the eagle, and has been skillfully done, requiring a reengraving of the A in REPUBLICA and TE in VIENTE.
