Estados Unidos silver Specimen Pattern 10 Pesos 1972-Mo SP65 PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM-Unl., PL-41 (RRRR). A historically very interesting Pattern type, and one of a mere 5 currently graded by PCGS, of which a single SP66 grades finer. Luna Herrera records that after a period of 14 years during which the 10 Pesos coin had been replaced by the 10 Pesos banknote, there was again a need for the coined form in the market. The distinctive heptagonal shape was supposedly inspired by the British 50 Pence of the time, which the President encountered in 1973 on a trip to Great Britain. Missing from the Gerber Collection, we are aware of one other example coming to auction (the aforementioned SP66), which hammered for $5000 in January 2018.
