Republic gold "National Gratitude to the Codifiers of Peru" Medal ND (c. 1853) UNC, 48mm. 30.61gm. Raised and white-enameled circular center with book of laws inside ring of diamonds, inside second white-enameled ring with words "GRATITUD A LOS CODIFICADORES DEL PERU" within sunburst of ten five-point rays with ten diamonds in between, all below a wreath hanger with raised flower in gold, centered within design of concentric rings. The reverse displays the initials "MTU," belonging to an unknown individual, though likely a congressional recipient. Very well preserved, with full enameling and good quality diamonds, all of which remain attached. We note that the offering has been attributed to the Oscar Salbach Collection (J. Schulman, 1911-1912) and is purportedly plated in this catalog.
