Philip III gold Cob 2 Escudos ND (1600-1609) G-M MS61 NGC, Granada mint, Cal-1031 (this coin), cf. Cay-4981 (for the type), Oro Macuquino-76a (one known, this coin). 6.50gm. Variety with legend "OMNIVM". A curious coin, possibly unique, which didn't feature in the 2008 edition of Calicó, but made it into the most recent one. Presenting crisp and well-struck devices, with mildly encrusted crevices, this piece has an interesting date, where one can see "I06_", as if it was backwards. Though the label says (1600-1609), both Calicó and Oro Macuquino only list 1605 and 1606 as known dates, setting this example apart as "160?", due to its distinguished die style and legend. A rare piece, that will likely be fiercely disputed.
