Basel. Canton Medallic "Hen" Taler ND (1629-1653) MS62 NGC, Schwartz-1169, Ewig-808. By F. Fechter. A rare and contested medallic Taler type featuring a mother hen with chicks to the obverse, the reverse displaying Basel, centering on the Rhine in the foreground with the spired city in the background. The offering maintains an abundance of shimmering mint luster, overlaid in deeper tone that brightens in a burst of iridescent, colorful highlights, including crimson, gold, and overlapping blues.
