Zanzibar
British Protectorate. Sultan Ali Bin Hamud Cent 1908 MS64 Red and Brown NGC, KM8. A stellar survivor of this highly elusive issue, graced with a soft patina over surfaces expressing shimmering luster and ample remaining copper-red color. According to James Sweeny's book, "A numismatic History of the Birmingham Mint," none of the 1908 Zanzibar series (1, 10, and 20 Cents) were released into circulation. According to Jerome Remick there are no more than 20 to 60 pieces of each extant. We believe that only between 20 and 30 of this type survive in all grades.
