The Isle de France was the name of the Indian Ocean island which is known as Mauritius and its dependent territories between 1715 and 1810, when the area was under the French East India Company and a part of the French Empire. Reunion was previously known as the Isle Bourbon, after the French royal House of Bourbon. In 1793, during the Revolution, its name was changed to "Reunion Island" in homage to the meeting of the Federates of Marseilles and the National Guards of Paris, during the march on the Tuileries Palace on August 10, 1792, and to erase the name of the Bourbon dynasty.
