ILKHAN: Hulagu, 1256-1265, AR dirham (3.08g), Dimashq, AH658, A-2124, fully legible mint & date, extremely rare type for this mint, Mongol conquest coin, on which Hulagu is described as "the conqueror of the coast (al-basita) by the grace of his brother Möngke, the Great Qa'an", excellent example with minimal weakness for this type, VF to EF, RRR. The coast refers to the Mediterranean, which of course the Mongol army never quite reached! Hulagu occupied Damascus for three months in AH658.
Estimate: 400-500 USD
