TENASSERIM-PEGU: Anonymous, 17th-18th century, lead weight (525g), Robinson Plate 5.3, and the Phayre #2 (Robinson Plate 6.2), 75mm; stylized hintha bird, with fancy tail, long beak, and curled crest // complex Burmese-Mon legend in 7 lines (never deciphered), both sides with broad raised margin, EF, RRR. Cast with the same obverse mold as Lot 1854 in our Auction 35, to which this is almost exactly the same weight. This piece is also heavier than all previously reported specimens (heaviest on Robinson Plate 5.4 at 456.85g), and certainly another one of the finest known, with most of the peculiar legend well-preserved.
