Philippe VI (1328-1350) Ecu d'Or a la chaise ND (from 1337) MS62 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-270, Ciani-282, Dup-249. 4.48gm. 1st Emission (from 1 January 1337). +PhILIPPVS: DЄI x | x GRΛ x | FRΛnCORVM: RЄX (saltire and double saltire stops), Philippe seated facing on Gothic throne, a sword in his right hand and his left supporting a shield, all within tressure / + (annulet) XPC: VInCIT: XPC: RЄGИΛT: XPC: INPЄRT (double annulet stops), cross fleurée with quatrefoil at center and at the ends of the limbs, leaves in angles; all within a quadrilobe with trefoils in spandrels. Simply a beautiful and incredibly expressive selection that very nearly edges on a finer technical grade. Indeed, there is hardly a square inch of the flan that does not exude a pervasive luster, which is ultimately on full display owing to the coin's modicum of softness or unevenness of strike.
