François I (1515-1547) gold Ecu d'Or au soleil ND (from 1519) AU58 NGC, Paris mint (pellet below 18th letter), Fr-347, Dup-775. 3.42gm. 5th type, 3rd Emission (from 21 July 1519). +FRANCISCVS: DEI: GRACIA: FRANCORVM: REX, small sun above crowned royal shield within inner border / +XPS: VINCIT: XPS: REGNAT: XPS: IMPERAT, cross fleury, F in first and fourth angles, lis in second and third. Of much finer detail than the assigned grade would suggest, with a remarkable degree of definition and a lack of the usual ghosting making for an enviable piece.
