Manuel I gold Cruzado ND (1495-1521) AU55 NGC, Lisbon mint, Fr-21, Gomes-62.06, JS-E1.2. 3.55gm. +EMΛИVEL: P: R: P: ET: Λ: D: G: GVIИEE, crowned royal shield within polylobe / +EMΛИVEL: P: R: P: ET: Λ: D: G: GVIИE (E over cross), cross within quatrefoil, star in third quarter. A well-struck and highly attractive early Portuguese gold type, featuring an intriguing engraving error where the die cutter ran out of space in portioning the reverse legend, forcing him to cut the E in GVINE over the initial cross. Presently one of only three certified examples at NGC, with die polish still visible in the recesses of the obverse.
