GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1696 Year OCTAVO. London Mint. William III. PCGS AU-58.
S-3470; Dav-3781; KM-486. Only the faintest touch of wear exists on the high points of the British arms, and with a beautiful steel gray color, this Crown is beset with beauty. A bit of a striking weakness is noted on the obverse rim at approximately 3 o'clock, which is more than made up for by a richness of strike in the details of the bust and arms.
After Mary’s death in 1694 where they had been ruling as co-regents, William III ruled alone until his death in 1702. During their time together, William and Mary were immensely popular on account of their Protestantism, and they favored moderate policies of toleration. Mary often ruled alone while William was absent from Britain fighting and proved a skillful ruler.
