ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (7.95 gms), ca. 332-302 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Fine Style.
HGC-1, 803; Vlasto-605 (same dies); HN Italy-937; Fischer-Bossert-852 (V337/R661). Obverse: Warrior, preparing to cast spear and holding two others, on horse rearing right; ΣA below; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding kantharos and cradling trident, riding dolphin left; monogram to left; below, small dolphin left. Nicely struck and centered, this specimen is a great example of the fine style type with high relief. Very lightly worn, it is sure to excite the legions of collectors of Tarentum dolphins.
