ITALY. Bruttium. Kroton. AR Stater (Nomos) (7.76 gms), ca. 400-325 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Fine Style. Graffiti, Edge Marks.
HGC-1, 1463; HN Italy-2168; SNG ANS-373 (same dies). Head of Hera facing slightly right, wearing stephane decorated with palmettes; Reverse: Herakles Epitrapezios: young Herakles, nude, holding cup and cradling club, reclining left on lion skin draped over rock; B above arm, bow below. A few unfortunate marks in the obverse field account for the graffiti designation, but this attractively toned piece otherwise presents a well centered strike from dies clearly of fine style.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $700 - $1000
