MACEDON. Mende. AR Tetradrachm (17.46 gms), ca. 460-423 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
HGC-3.1, 545; Noe-50 (same dies); Jameson-1961 (same dies). Obverse: Inebriated Dionysos, holding kantharos and branch, reclining on the back of a donkey standing right; to right, bird perched right upon branch; Reverse: Linear square containing vine with leaves, tendrils, and four bunches of grapes. A well centered and charmingly engraved example, offering an enchanting cabinet tone and tremendous originality. Incredible quality that RARELY presents itself.
