ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (16.84 gms), ca. 500/490-485/0 B.C. NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Marks.
HGC-4, 1590; Seltman-Group Gii, 233a (A154/P187; this coin cited). Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig to left; all within incuse square. Despite some marking on the surface, this remains a very collectable piece from the archaic period of Athens. Nicely struck and holding some inconsistent dark patina, this example provides originality as its appeal.
