ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (17.12 gms), ca. 454-404 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.
HGC-4, 1597; Kroll-8; SNG Cop-31. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Very boldly struck on a full flan, this example presents only minimal evidence of handling and offers a particularly nicely centered reverse--a great match to a dark and engaging tone.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
Estimate: $600 - $900
