PONTOS. Kingdom of Pontos. Mithradates VI Eupator, 120-63 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.28 gms), Pergamon Mint, dated 10th month of BE 222 (July 75 B.C.). NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style. Light Marks.
HGC-7, 340; SNG Berry-895. Obverse: Diademed head right; Reverse: Stag grazing left; to left, star-in-crescent above monogram; to right, BKΣ (date) above monogram; I (month) in exergue; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Undoubtedly one of the more captivating portrait types from the later series, this example presents a diademed head of the king with wildly flowing hair and an expressive gaze, while a more intricate nature is encountered upon the reverse. Attractively toned and well centered.
