SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.87 gms), Babylon I Mint, ca. 311-300 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5.
HGC-9, 10f; SC-82.6; Pr-3704. In the name and types of Alexander III 'the Great' of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Rev: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, monogram within wreath; below throne, H below strut. Continuing with the popular and well travelled Alexander III-style tetradrachms, this Seleukid issue, though slightly off-center, has only been handled lightly and retains a bit of luster to match a strong strike and nice surfaces.

From a New York Collection.

Estimate: $300 - $500
