AUSTRIA. Coin Postcard Album With Extras Postcards, ND (ca. 1910). VERY FINE.
An interesting piece of numismatics, a book of coin cards along with a few lose examples. Produced to show the exchange rate from one country to another. The book does freely admit that the exchange rates change often and that the numbers are likely not accurate at the time. However they were so well produced, they became a collector item. The example here comes with a green tweed like cover and 7 additional post cards. Close inspection is suggested as this is truly niche part of numismatics.

As per Coinage on Postcards: The Cambist's Glorious Last Hurrah, by David D. Gladfelter, in 1904, Hugo Semmler created a coin card with embossed metallic-ink images of the coins of different countries on them. However his also included the exchange rate. Starting with more local countries, but eventually expanding to 20 countries that first year. First in German, the printed in French and English as well. Over the next few years as the cards became more popular, he expanded to 45 countries, a number that seem to become the standard. A few years later, Fortuna Hornung, began producing her own cards and putting them into a book with 45 different countries. Her workshop was in the historic inner ring in District 8 in Vienna. Our example here is just one of those book.

Estimate: $100 - $200
