MEXICO. Cob 2 Reales, ND (1538-40 or 41). Mexico City Mint. Carlos and Johanna. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details.
KM-11; Nesmith-25D. Rhomboid panel to left, cross potent between annulets as stops on obverse, quatrefoils as stops on reverse. This decently preserved example exhibits a bold strike on a nearly fully round planchet with virtually complete legends. The stops on both sides add an interesting aspect and are seldom encountered on this issue. Close inspection reveals signs of light tasteful tooling in the obverse fields with thick black encrustation amongst the devices of the reverse mentioned for accuracy. Despite its shortcomings a presentable example of the type sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
Estimate: $400 - $600
