Aethelred II (978-1016) Penny ND (c. 997-1003) AU Details (Peck Marked) NGC, Exeter mint, Edric as moneyer, Long Cross type, S-1151, N-773. 1.67gm. +ÆĐELRED REX ΛNGLOX (ANG ligate, O doubled), bare-headed, draped bust of Aethelred left / +ED | RIC | MΩO | EΛXE, voided long cross with each limb terminating in three crescents. Showcasing a markedly handsome portrait style for Aethelred's coinage, with the whole of the piece struck on a full flan with ample detail remaining. For the sake of completeness, we note some scratches in the fields around the bust.
