Aemilian. Sestertius; Aemilian; 253 AD, Rome, Sestertius, 17.58g. Obv. legend var. of RIC-47a and C-36 (100 Fr.). Obv: [IMP AEMILIANV]S PIVS FEL AVG Bust laureate, draped, cuirassed r. Rx: [P] M TR P I P P S - C Emperor standing l. holding patera over tripod altar in r. hand and transverse spear in l.; between the emperor and the altar, a military standard. Though not in RIC with this obverse legend, this is not a particularly rare sestertius of Aemilian. Richard Beale illustrates a similar coin on his Four Bad Years website, and states that he has seen many others.. F
