Obv: Veiled and diademed head of Cleopatra r., jugate with diademed head of Antiochus; no legend, fillet border. Rx: ??S??ISS[?S] / ?????????[S] / T??S (on r.) and ??? / ??S - ???OS / ??? - ???o? (on l.), Zeus seated l. holding Nike and scepter; date B9P in exergue, monogram AYP in outer l. field and letters AN under throne. Acquired from Harlan J. Berk, 1997; later in Berk 130, 6 January 2003, lot 167.An exceptional example of this interesting dynastic tetradrachm struck for Antiochus VIII and his mother Cleopatra, who after an uneasy joint reign lasting four years was obliged to drink a cup of poisoned wine which she had prepared for the king" (Sear 7135).
