Rare Brasseux Prefatory Publication
Brasseux aîné. CATALOGUE DES MÉDAILLES DE L'HISTOIRE NUMISMATIQUE DE NAPOLÉON, COMME GÉNÉRAL, CONSUL ET EMPEREUR, FRAPPÉES A LA MONNAIE DE PARIS, DEPUIS LA BATAILLE DE MONTENOTTE, EN 1796, JUSQU'À NOS JOURS. Paris: En vente, chez Brasseux aîné, graveur du roi, éditeur, Palais-Royal, No 47, Galerie Montpensier, 1840. 8vo, self-covered. (8), 8 pages. Pencil markings on covers; very good. The introductory matter, including checklist descriptions, of this series of 110 Napoleonic medals struck at the Paris Mint. It is also found used as a preface to the fully illustrated version of the same title, which comes with 110 lithographic plates not here present. This version was presumably issued as a marketing tool to generate orders of the main work and the medals themselves. Ex Richard E. Margolis Library.
