Howard Gibbs's Compendium on the Eklund Collection
Eklund, O.P. COPPER COINS OF THE WORLD. Bound volume of extracts from Eklund's long-running articles in The Numismatist. Includes: The Copper Coins of Spain (3 parts, 1928); Copper Coins of Mexico, Central America and South America (8 parts, 1927, one bound out of order); Copper Coins of Portugal (5 parts, 1929); Italian Copper Coins (17 parts, 1930–1931); The Copper Coins of France (8 parts, 1931–1932); and The Copper Coins of Austria-Hungary (5 parts, 1933). Sections divided with tabs affixed to opening margins. All parts rather heavily annotated by Howard Gibbs, who indicates that he purchased some or all of Eklund's collection of the copper coins of Portugal, Italy, France and Austria-Hungary. [bound with] Duffield, F.G. A TRIAL LIST OF THE COUNTERMARKED MODERN COINS OF THE WORLD. Extracts from Duffield's long-running series in The Numismatist. Includes 27 parts published between 1919 and 1922. 8vo, later red cloth with spine lettered COPPER / COINS / O.P. EKLUND / H.D. GIBBS in gilt. A well-used volume, but perfectly intact. Very good. A highly interesting volume, frequently used by Howard D. Gibbs to keep track of his extensive collection, which included many of the coins Eklund discussed in his articles. Collectors today may not be aware of Eklund's numerous articles on world coins published in The Numismatist. In addition to the ones included in this volume, Eklund published studies of the copper coins of Denmark, the German Empire, German States, Luxembourg, Norway, Russia and Poland, and Sweden, as well as articles on other subjects.
