Donated to the ANS in 1859 by John H. Hickcox
New-York State Library. CATALOGUE. NEW-YORK STATE LIBRARY: 1855. LAW LIBRARY. Albany, 1856. First edition. 8vo, contemporary black half morocco, gilt; spine ruled and lettered in gilt. x, 402 pages. Professionally rebacked; near fine. Ex American Numismatic and Archaeological Society, with their bookplate recognizing its receipt in 1859 by donor John H. Hickcox, This is the non-numismatic companion volume to the catalogue of maps, manuscripts, engravings, coins, etc., published the following year. On page 29 of Howard L. Adelson's 1959 The American Numismatic Society 1858–1958, we read that Hickcox was elected to membership on January 6, 1859 and donated a copy of his Historical Account of American Coinage: "Hickcox had come to the attention of the Society because he had made a donation of the Catalogue of the New York State Library." Since deaccessed, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a book that was part of the ANS Library in the 1850s.
