Extraordinary Pogue Gold Coin Photographs
[Pogue, D. Brent]. ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS & NEGATIVES DEPICTING $2.50, $5 AND $10 GOLD PIECES FROM THE D. BRENT POGUE COLLECTION. Two hundred four 8.5 by 11 inch color photographic prints depicting the coins at greatly enlarged size (with side margins of just an inch or so for all denominations). As follows: Quarter Eagles: 28 photos depicting both sides of 14 coins, 1796–1841. Half Eagles: 152 photos depicting both sides of 76 coins, 1795–1854. Eagles: 24 photos depicting both sides of 12 coins, 1795–1804. Housed in plastic sleeves (two to a sleeve) within two large three ring binders. Also included are the original negatives for 79 different Pogue coins (numbered 1–80 except for 76), including some of the above as well some of the silver dollars [multiple negatives of each coin are present]. Fine. One of two sets of photographs of some of the highlights of the Pogue collection, from the library of David W. Akers. The negatives were the only ones present in the Akers Library. The photos are primarily of early U.S. gold coins, and include the 1822 half eagle. Their quality is excellent.
