1879–1880 Treasury Department Checkbook
United States Treasury. ORIGINAL CHECKBOOK: DISBURSING OFFICERS' CHECKS ON ASSISTANT TREASURER, NEW YORK, N.Y. Oblong checkbook [32 by 19 cm], original maroon cloth-backed marbled boards with printed cover label indicating that the book is for checks 1701–1800. Stubs remain, with handwritten notations, for checks 1701–1736 written between 1879 and 1882; 29 sheets of two blank checks each remain, with stubs. Two sheets are loose, the rest are intact. Very good. Rarely seen. The checks were printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and feature the portrait of Samuel Dexter (who served as Secretary of War and Secretary of the Treasury under Adams and Jefferson).
