The Lost Collection of Simon English Esq. | Commonwealth (1649-1660), Gold Crown, 1651, Tower, THE COMMONWEALTH OF ENGLAND, 'G over O', no stops on obverse, English shield within palm and laurel wreath, rev. • 1651 • GOD • WITH • VS, large V over small v, conjoined shields of England and Ireland, 2.29g [35.4grns], 11h, m.m. sun (AHH Virtual 254 this coin; Schneider II, 359 same dies; EGC 63; North 2719; Spink 3212), trivial doubling to reverse peripheries and a trace of metal flawing below Maid of Erin, otherwise a magnolious and arresting Commonwealth gem, sumptuously cabinet toned with underlying mint brilliance, extremely fine and very rare, especially in this condition.
