JUDAEA, Aelia Capitolina (Jerusalem). Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ (13.5mm, 2.82 g, 7h). Struck 130-138 CE. Bareheaded and draped bust right, seen from behind / Boar standing right. Meshorer, Aelia 4; RPC III 3966; Rosenberger 4; Sofaer 6. Dark green patina, earthen deposits, light roughness on obverse. VF. Very rare. The finest known example.
From the Kenneth S. Abramowitz Collection.
RPC describes the obverse as "bare head right" whereas Sofaer describes it as "laureate and draped bust right". Unfortunately, none of the extant examples are clear enough to answer the question with any certainty. This is the best example known and the question still remains.
