Maximianus. First reign, AD 286-305. AR Argenteus (18mm, 3.52 g, 5h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 300. MAXIMIA NVS AVG, laureate head right / X C/V I (mark of value) in two lines within laurel wreath. RIC VI 15b (Rome); Jeločnik -; RSC 698†a. Toned, light porosity, a few minor scratches. Good VF.
RIC attributed this issue to Carthage, but a hitherto unpublished example with the mintmark PR, and with very close stylistic parallels to this issue, was found in an English excavation, making the attribution to Rome more likely.
