KINGS of MACEDON. Amyntas III. 394/3-370/69 BC. AR Fraction (11mm, 1.37 g, 7h). Aigai or Pella mint. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Eagle standing left, head right, in linear square [within incuse square]. Westermark, Remarks, pl. LXX, 33; HGC 3, 830 (hemidrachm?). Toned, some find patina and deposits, cleaning scratches. Near VF.

From the Ulysses Collection.

As noted by Westermark, the weights of these fractions vary dramatically, so their exact denomination is unknown. Across a variety of numismatic publications, they have been called tetrobols, hemidrachms, and diobols, but all designations are speculative.
