Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan (1628-58), gold Mohur, 11.92g, Balkh, AH1057, legends in square frame with knotted corners both sides (KM 260.16), a few punches on edge, condition varies across flan, toned good very fine, an extremely rare mint for this type.
For a coin struck from same dies housed in the British Museum see Zeno:
https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=201550
This extremely rare type was only struck during the Mughal occupation of Balkh that took place between 1646-7. See also 'Numismatic Reflections of Shahjahan's Balkh Campaign' in Numismatic Digest 39, 2015. It is encouraging that this coin is struck from the same dies as that in the British Museum (see small die crack above last letter of 'Allah'); a limited campaign issue would only necessitate a few dies.

Estimate: £2,500 - £3,000
