Sikh Empire, Ranjit Singh (VS 1856-96; 1799-1839), Morashahi Rupee, 11.06g, Amritsar, VS 1862, reverse with mora (peacock tail), or ber symbol (Herrli 01.11.04; Gurprit Singh 01.29.01; KM 20.4), a few shroff marks on edge and obversetest punch, very fine and scarce.
Coins of this type have been referred to as Morashahi due to the shape of the symbol on the reverse that resembles a peacock's tail. Gurprit Singh says that they should be correctly referred to as Bershahi a name taken from its resemblance to a sprig of the Ber (Zizyphus jujuba).
Estimate: £150 - £200
