Believed to be a product of the Emery mint. Included on authority NC 1848-9, pp. 185-7. See BNJ i (1904), pp. 139- 147 for a discussion of medals or pattern crowns of Henry VIII with the reverse legend as on this piece, which are traditionally regarded as precursors for the issued coronation medals (cf. W. Till, Descriptive Particulars of English Coronation Medals [1838], p. i).
Produced by Emery, a successful and prolific forger whom the Times in July 1842 labelled 'an impudent and unprincipled forger'. The subject is written about by H. E. Pagan in BNJ. 40, 1971, Mr Emery's Mint.
