The Maclise medal is very rare in silver, the Art Union only allotting just 30 specimens in 1878. The cataloguers do not know of any other frosted silver Art Union medals, Maclise or otherwise. Maclise's painting of 'The Play Scene in 'Hamlet' is now in the collection of the Tate Gallery, London.
