Jotapian (ca. autumn AD 249). AR antoninianus (22mm, 3.88 gm, 12h). NGC XF 4/5 - 2/5. Nicopolis in Seleucia mint. IM C M F R IOTAPIANVS AV, radiate, cuirassed bust of Jotapian right, seen from behind / VICT-ORIA-AV-G, Victory advancing left, wreath upward in outstretched right hand, palm cradled in left. Bland, Coinage of Jotapian, Essays Carson-Jenkins, 1993, unlisted dies. RIC IV.III 2b var. (obverse legend). Struck on a broad flan, with some porosity as is normal for Jotapian. Extremely rare: Bland could locate only 18 surviving antoniniani of Jotapian, who revolted in northern Syria late in the reign of Philip I.
