Alexius III Angelus-Comnenus (AD 1195-1203). BI aspron trachy (31mm, 5h). NGC MS. Constantinople. +KЄ RO-HΘЄI, bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger with five pellets in each arm, pallium, and colobium, right hand raised in benediction, book of Gospels cradled in left arm; IC-XC (barred) across fields / Alexius III (on left), and nimbate St. Constantine (on right), both standing facing, wearing crown, divitision, and loros, cruciform scepter in outer hand, jointly holding globus cruciger with inner hands. Sear 2011-2013. Sear notes the billon trachea of Alexius III are often so badly struck that it is impossible to differentiate between the three varieties.
