The prototype for this plaquette is unknown but could possibly be an intaglio of Caesar in the Medici collection which had the star and lituus but was un-draped (see Ricci). Studies in the History of Art, vol. 22, National Gallery of Art, 1989, pp. 165-69, and for this particular plaquette cf. p. 166 and fig. 1.
