UNCERTAIN WESTERN EUROPE. Æ Sestertius (35mm, 22.02 g, 7h). Countermark applied late 1st century AD(?). VITE (or VE?) countermarked on a sestertius of Nero. Apparently unpublished in the standard references. Rough brown surfaces, porous, chipped. Host Poor, c/m: Fine.
From the Richard Baker Collection.
The consignor keenly notes that the letter strokes of this punch were struck separately from individual wedges, indicative of a very small issue. The monogram is quite possibly that of Vitellius, and is presently unique and unpublished in the standard references.
