JUDAEA, Procurators. Valerius Gratus. 15-26 CE. Æ Prutah (16mm, 1.63 g, 5h). In the name of Julia Augusta (Livia). Jerusalem mint. Dated RY 3 of Tiberius (16/7 CE). IOV/ΛIΛ in two lines within wreath with large central jewel / Three lilies in bloom; L Γ (date) across field. Meshorer 321; Hendin 6364; RPC I 4961. Brown and green surfaces. VF.
It is interesting to note that the wreath on this coin, and 6363, tie at the top and hang down, with the central jewel at the bottom of the design. All other wreathes in the Procuratorial series, as well as most wreathes in other ancient coin types, tie at the bottom. This is a fairly unique and interesting wreath design.
