ANGLO-GALLIC. Edward the Black Prince. As Prince of Aquitaine, 1362-1372. AR Demi-gros (23mm, 2.18 g, 8h). First issue. Poitiers mint. Half-length figure of Edward right, wearing floral wreath, holding sword over right shoulder and raising left hand in benediction, within tressure of arches / Long cross pattée, trefoils in quarters. AGC 196, 7/p; SCBC 8130. Toned, light marks, areas of weak strike. Good Fine. Rare legend variety with TAn AQI.
The mint mark, appearing at the end of the obverse legend, is somewhat difficult to read. While at first glance it appears to be a B, this is presumably an artifact of the wear, as the only other mint with this unusual combination of obverse legend stops and transposed reverse legend is Poitiers, with a P at the end of the obverse legend.
